The quote reminded me of one of my aunts from Kentucky who use to go out and shoot the rattlesnakes in her yard. People thought she was crazy and wondered about her. I was visiting with her one day and was getting ready to go to the store. She asked if I needed her gun. I thought I could make it there and back okay. Then she told me she began shooting the rattlesnakes in her yard when she had started to get strange phone calls; she recognized the calls as being the chief of police. Knowing she didn't have a lot of options, she thought letting him know she had a gun and was a good shot was a good idea. So she took to shooting rattlesnakes and let the rumor mill take care of the rest. The phone calls stopped. LOL!
I am a United Methodist pastor serving a small rural church in Kansas. I am blessed with an amazing family and group of wonderful friends. I have a dog name Jeff...yes, Jeff! By the grace of God, I'm growing and learning for the sake of becoming more loving and compassionate (aka "perfection"). I believe God is revealing to us a new way to live--an "alternative wisdom"--that values understanding, compassion, justice, deep truth, mystery and, above all, love.
